IT TOOK a 94th-minute header from Robbie Muirhead to give a battling Greenock Morton a slender lead in their relegation play-off tie against Airdrieonians on Tuesday this week.
Morton had the best of the action in the latter stages of the game, hitting the post in the last ten minutes before Muirhead got on the end of a Brian McLean cross.
Airdrie, who are fighting for promotion into the Championship, had only lost once in their previous 11 outings, whereas Morton had struggled for the killer blow in many games, as manager Gus MacPherson said.
The Ton boss has previously praised the effort and commitment of the squad, but repeated that the last piece of the puzzle was lacking.
The last leg of the play-offsisset to be played tonight (Friday, May 21) at Cappielow.
