ROTHESAY Primary School marked Anti-Bullying Week with special activities promoting kindness, respect, and understanding. This year’s theme, “choose respect,” inspired lessons and discussions aimed at helping children recognise different forms of bullying, helping pupils understand how to stand up for themselves and others in positive ways.
In a creative literacy session, students watched Pixar’s short film For the Birds, which tells the story of bunch of arrogant tiny birds resting on a telephone wire who do not welcome the friendly overtures of a large, awkward bird.
Using the light-hearted story to explore the impact of bullying and the importance of kindness. The film sparked thoughtful conversations, with students identifying unkind behaviours and discussing how to show empathy and respect to everyone around them.
During circle time, the class explored various types of bullying, discussing how it might look in different situations and the steps they can take to stop it. Teachers emphasised the importance of treating others with kindness and helped students brainstorm ways to create a more respectful environment.
To bring these ideas to life, students created colourful banners around the “Choose Respect” theme. Their artwork will be displayed around the school as a reminder of their commitment to building a supportive and friendly community.
With excellent participation from all, the children demonstrated a strong understanding of kindness and respect, setting a positive tone for the rest of Anti-Bullying Week. Rothesay Primary hopes that the values discussed this week will leave a lasting impact on students as they work to foster a welcoming environment for everyone.
