Scenic Sandbank Christmas switch on

Despite shockingly wet weather there was a fantastic turnout to celebrate the switching on of Sandbank’s Christmas lights.

Santa turned up early and spoke to the children – who were really excited to see him and he rang his bell after each song and sang along too. The time arrived for the tree to light up and Santa asked the children to close their eyes before making a wish and counting down from five – and as if by magic the tree was ablaze with lights.

The event was organised by Scenic Sandbank and a spokesperson said: “A huge thanks to Sandbank Primary School Choir and Mrs Campbell who braved the pouring rain and sang us into the switch on. You were amazing as always.

“Thanks to Fiona who made punch, Sue for the mince pies and for standing in the rain handing these out. Thank you to those who donated, it is much appreciated as always. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported this event it was lovely to see so many of you.

“Lastly, I want to say thanks to those behind the scenes, people who work hard every year to make this happen. Bryan Pearce (Tilhill) for the tree, Peter McKerrall and his driver, James, for delivering the tree. The staff at the Marina, Stuart, Martin, Dee, Nikita and Willi,e for getting it to Rankins Brae and helping to get it into place. Tom McKillop and Iain MacNaughton for getting the lights on the tree.

“A huge thank you to Ross Petro for the use of the cherry picker and for answering my frantic call Sunday afternoon when the lights had disconnected from the tree.

“Thanks to Bryan, Woody and Craig for sorting everything and Nathan my grandson for standing out in the rain keeping me company, while I panicked we’d have to cancel. Thank you to Mike Lewis who stood in the rain smiling and ringing Santa’s bell – you were a star.

“Until next year when it all happens again, have a happy and peaceful Christmas and great New Year.”
