Rothesay cop faces sentencing for indecent communication charges

A SERVING police officer on the Isle of Bute who pled guilty to three charges of communicating indecently with three female colleagues will be sentenced next month.

Peter Fleming , (41), appeared at Greenock Sheriff court on Monday morning and pleaded guilty to three non-recent charges of communicating indecently.

Fleming, who will now be sentenced on Wednesday, February 26, was placed on the sex offenders register with immediate effect.

The three charges covered three different dates between 2021 and 2023 and all three incidents took place on the Isle of Bute as Fleming was undertaking his duties as a police officer, where he ‘intentionally engaged’ his victims ‘in a conversation of a sexual nature” and uttered ‘remarks of a sexual nature’ towards them.

He remains suspended and a report will now be

prepared for the Deputy Chief Constable for consideration of misconduct proceedings.

Chief Superintendent HelenHarrison,Professional Standards, said: “Peter Fleming’s conduct falls way below the standards of professional behaviour expected of everyone who works here.

“I would like to commend the victims in this case for coming forward. We know it can be difficult to report crimes of this nature but their pursuit of justice reflects their integrity to do therightthingandIapplaud their values.”

She added: “Communicating indecently is never acceptable in society no matter what position you hold and these crimes will always be fully investigated.

“It is right that policing is held to high standards at all times, and we will always support officers and staff acting with our values and standards at heart.”
