Bute’s own cancer support charity, Calum’s Cabin, has reopened its doors to their widely loved cabin and cottage, after two weeks of extensive renovations and touch-ups on the premises.

The charity offers accommodation for families going through cancer treatment, with a mixture of getaways to places like the Isle of Bute and apartments close to vital treatment centres.

Since being launched in 2007, the foundation has gone from strength to strength, not only providing respite for families, but providing vital care and raising money in the process.

In 2024 the charity won the Best Children’s Cancer Accommodation Support Charity Scotland Award, one of an extensive list of awards given to them.

Last year the charity opened its twelfth flat in Glasgow, adding to its superb array of accommodation available – with several vital treatments being administered in the Greater Glasgow area.

After half a month of closures on the island, Calum’s Cabin has reopened their Bute getaways to visitors.

In a message posted on their social media, the charity said: “Just like that, our two week shutdown at the Cabin and Cottage is over and we are ready for families moving back in.

“These two weeks are so important to allow us to renew, replace and refresh for the next 50 weeks – when we are fully booked.

“Thank you so much to each and every person who helped make this possible, it’s no easy feat – especially when so many other things are going on at the same time.

“We look forward to welcoming our first families back in.”
