SEVEN candidates have been confirmed for the by-election to be held by Argyll and Bute Council in the Mid Argyll ward next month.
The poll will take place on Thursday, October 29, and was arranged after the passing of the area’s late provost, Douglas Philand.
The list of candidates, published by the authority and in alphabetical order of surname, are:
- Andy Buntin (SNP)
- George Love (Restore Britain)
- Douglas MacDonald (Liberal Democrat)
- Kaine McConnell (Reform UK)
- David Moncrieff (Independent)
- Fiona Nelson (Independence for Scotland Party)
- Colvin Osborn (Conservative)
Polls will be open from 7am to 10pm on the day of the by-election, with a list of polling stations available to view on the council’s website at argyll-bute.gov.uk
Douglas Philand, who passed away in August, had served the Mid Argyll ward since May 2007, and had been provost since April 2024.
Another Mid Argyll councillor, Jan Brown, was elected as the area’s new provost at a full council meeting on Wednesday, September 23.
