Argyll swimmers make a splash

The past few weeks have been filled with action and excitement for the Dunoon Amateur Swimming Club, as several of its talented swimmers have been making waves in various competitions.

On Sunday, March 23, club members Lisa Wilson and Amelie Graysmark travelled to Wishaw Leisure Centre to compete in the Clyde Valley Beavers Meet, a key event for swimmers in the Scottish Disability Sports classifications.

The competition saw swimmers from across East, West, North, and South Scotland come together, providing an exciting atmosphere for all participants.

For Amelie Graysmark, it was her first competition since before the COVID-19 pandemic, and her performance was a true testament to the dedication and effort she’s been putting into her training.

Amelie started strong with a fantastic personal best time in the 100m individual medley.

She continued to impress with great races in the 50m backstroke, butterfly, and 100m freestyle.

Lisa Wilson, a seasoned competitor, was also in action across several events at the Meet.

She raced in the 100m individual medley, 50m backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly, as well as the 100m freestyle.

Lisa came away with impressive results, earning two gold medals in the backstroke and freestyle events, a silver in breaststroke, and a bronze in butterfly.

She also secured a fifth place finish in the individual medley, all whilst achieving hugely improved personal best times.

Looking ahead, both Lisa and her teammate Ollie Baines are gearing up for the Scottish Disability Games in the summer.

As part of their preparation, they will participate in a series of training sessions in May and June alongside other games swimmers.

In the meantime, they are continuing their training hard alongside their Dunoon clubmates.

In addition to the success of Lisa and Amelie, six members of the Riverside squad recently competed in Dumfries, with a full report of their performances to follow in the coming weeks.

The club’s mini-leaguers are also gearing up for their next competition on April 27, where they will compete against Stirling and Rutherglen at their home pool.

It promises to be another exciting event as the young swimmers continue to develop and challenge themselves in the pool.

With so many talented swimmers continuing to shine at various events, Dunoon Amateur Swimming Club is clearly making a significant impact in the world of competitive swimming.
