Plans revealed to fill Argyll Street fire site.

A PLANNING application has been submitted to Argyll and Bute Council for the construction of a replacement building on Argyll Street’s now infamous fire site.

Back in 2021 a devastating blaze ripped through a section of the town’s main street, burning four popular shops to the ground. The site of the fire left a gaping hole, but now a plan has been revealed which could potentially reconstruct that section of Argyll Street.

Its understood that council officials are considering a bid for planning permission in principle at 105-109 Argyll Street for a mixed use retail and hot food development, along with short-term holiday let apartments.

A supporting statement by planning agent Jamie MacFarlane said: “In summary, the proposed development is for replacement retail floor space in Dunoon town centre, with ‘enabling’ residential holiday let accommodation above.

More details on this development in next week’s edition of the Dunoon Observer.
