Inveraray second team manager, Andrew McMurdo, claimed the Coach of the Year award at this year’s MOWI awards after an impressive season at the helm.
The gaffer guided his side to promotion, losing only once in the South Division 2 and scoring almost double the amount of goals as the second-top scorers in the league.
On his award, he said: “It’s nice to be nationally recognised, I think over the course of the season it’s very much been a team effort from the committee – allowing me to focus on the shinty side of things.
“All-in-all, it’s nice getting that individual recognition, but it’s the club and community pulling together which has been the good part of it.”
In what was a tremendous season, Andrew harked back to their win over title challengers Bute as the defining moment: “The fact that we were able to go there and win 4-3 in the dying minutes was an indication that we had the ability to do it [win the title].
“The Bute away game showed the resolve and the character of the team.”
Looking ahead to next season, the gaffer wants to continue to improve young players and give them a chance to flourish in a better standard if division: “We want to continue to give the young players a platform to develop and express themselves.
“We want to win every game, but we just need to build-up a platform for these guys to be comfortable and to go on and be able to play for the first team.
“It’s very much a developmental arch that we’re trying to have at the club and it’s working.
“To play at a higher level is only going to make them better, so I’m looking forward to the challenge of it.”
