A NUMBER of well-worn benches located up and down the local promenade have been transformed following an extensive refurbishment project.
Dunoon Community Council, (DCC) spearheaded the initiative which was recently completed resulting in the restoration of eight worn-out wooden benches on Alexandra Parade.
Initiated and funded by the DCC in 2024, the project has breathed new life into these important public amenities.
Member for infrastructure and redevelopment for DCC, Paul Graysmark Snr explained: “On behalf of Dunoon Community Council, I would like to extend our thanks to John, Richard and Drew of the Community Shed for their expertise, initial work and making facilities available. The project then moved to Steve Gilpin and his workers at the Justice Community Payback System who have done a sterling job along with assistance from the Help Argyll and Bute Project.”
He added: “Wooden planks and fixing bolts were sourced locally from Fynewoods and John Tyre and Sons who gave much appreciated discounts. The remaining resources have been used to refurbish the benches at the Co-op bus stop, Kirk Street and beyond. A real community effort.”
This successful initiative, thanks to the cooperation of various local groups and businesses, has restored the promenade benches to their former glory, just in time for the new year.
