Dunoon Amateur Boxing Club (DABC) is celebrating after two of its standout boxers, Ryan Barbour and Liam Paul, delivered impressive performances at the recent Sparta Boxing home show in Grangemouth.

The event saw 17 fighters go head-to-head in a night of thrilling action, and both Ryan and Liam returned with victories that sets them up for a strong year ahead.

In his bout, Ryan Barbour faced a tough opponent from Cain Boxing Club.

Weighing in at 54kg, the two fighters stepped into the ring and delivered an exciting, well-paced contest.

Ryan, showing great composure and skill, landed a series of well-timed combinations while maintaining a steady pace throughout the match.

Despite his opponent’s strength and resilience, Ryan absorbed the punches and stayed focused, ultimately securing the win by unanimous decision.

Reflecting on his victory, Ryan said:”It feels great, it’s a good confidence boost for my upcoming Caledonia Box Cup.

“My match was tough, but my opponent was more experienced and quick.

“A massive thank you to the coaches and my team for all the hard work and support.”

Despite his win, Ryan is always looking to improve further and is always looking for his next challenge.

He added: “I’ve been on vitamin supplements, personal training, boxing gym sessions, and runs to keep fit and I’m hoping to enter anything I can in the future to progress.”

And Liam Paul, one of the club’s top boxers, headlined the night with an exciting match against Sparta’s own fighter.

Both boxers, known for their southpaw stance, threw powerful punches throughout the three three-minute rounds.

It was a fast-paced and intense fight, which spectators later deemed the best bout of the evening.

In a thrilling and competitive contest, Liam’s strength and technique saw him through to a unanimous decision victory, maintaining his unbeaten record.

He said: “I feel there’s no better feeling than winning—only one place, and that’s first place.

“It was a good match, a real war for three rounds, I’ve been training five days a week for years now, and it all paid off.”

But he’s not stopping there, as the boxer quipped at what lies ahead, adding: “Future plans?

“Taking more jaws for walks down the M8.”

Liam also extended his thanks to his sponsors, coaches, and Karen, who works tirelessly behind the scenes to support the club.

He said: “A big thanks to my sponsors, coaches, and Karen for all their hard work.

“They do a lot for the club, and I couldn’t do it without them.”

The results from the event have filled Dunoon Amateur Boxing Club with immense pride.

A spokesperson for the club said: “As a club, we were delighted with the results, we are beyond proud of Ryan and Liam.

“We are excited about the year ahead with many box cups, shows and championships already pencilled in.”

As the team looks ahead to a busy year of competition, the success at the Sparta Boxing home show is a sign of even more victories to come.
