Dunoon natives, Rachel Bowie and Stuart McIntyre, have been selected to head to Malta this week for the European Eight Ball Pool Championships, representing Scotland against the rest of the continent in Malta.

The pair fly out on Friday, February 7, and the tournament takes place between February 8 and 14.

The ladies’ team, facing fierce competition from 12 other A&B teams across England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Wales, France, Belgium, and Portugal, has their eyes set on victory.

Rachel faces a challenging first-round draw against England’s Megan Proctor.

Meanwhile, Stuart’s team will face off against tough squads from Belgium, Malta, France, Northern Ireland, Wales, and Ireland, with Stuart up against Emmanuel Da Costa from Portugal in what promises to be an exciting match.

Rachel said: “I’m so happy and honoured to have been selected to play for Scotland ladies again.

“Malta is my favourite venue and I can’t wait to start playing on Saturday, against our ladies a team.

“We have a very strong b team with a wealth of experience, our captain for the European’s is Louise Sutton. who is from Rothesay and is a regular in the b team.

“We are ready to ruffle some feathers and show the other countries exactly what we can do.”

Whilst Rachel has represented Scotland since 2017, this is Stuart’s first time on the team.

He said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have qualified to represent Scotland at the European Pool Championships.

“I had a solid enough year on the tour and that gave me enough ranking points to give me a shot at the Scotland trials, in which I managed to win four out of five matches.

“There’s lots of thanks to be given out, and you all know who you are, but the hard work starts now and I cannot wait to meet up with my new teammates and hopefully do a bit of damage over there.”
