Dunoon Players invite everyone on an adventure to the magical land of Oz. They can join in by coming to Dunoon’s Queen’s Hall on the evenings of Thursday December 12, Friday 13 or Saturday 14 at 7.30pm, or the matinee performance on Saturday, December 14 at 2.30pm.
This panto version of The Wizard of Oz was written by Tom Whalley, and will be directed by Lauren Fisher. Lauren starred in Dunoon Players’ production of Calendar Girls last year, and the group feel very privileged that she is in charge this year, as she is a highly experienced director who works mostly with groups in Greenock, and is also currently taking part in a directing course at the Old Vic Theatre in London.
The Wizard of Oz is a family-friendly story, suitable for all ages. Many people will already be familiar with the story of Dorothy (played in this version by Vivien Danks), who lives on a farm in Kansas with her Aunt Em (Sam Potts) and Uncle Henry (Trudie Robson). As the story begins, Dorothy’s friends are the farmhands Hickory, (Alistair Galbraith) Dickory (Claire Martin Forrest) and Doc (Sharon Western), and her nemesis is mean Ms Gulch (Shirley Haunschmidt).
After a twister blows Dorothy’s house to Oz, the Wicked Witch of the West (Donna Dunn) tries to stop Dorothy reaching the Wizard of Oz (Ian J Shaw), but she is helped by Glinda the good fairy, (Drew McIntyre) and of course, a Scarecrow, a Tin Man and a Cowardly Lion, who all join in the adventures. There are some surprises along the way, including a flying monkey, munchkins, songs and dancing.
Tickets cost £12 for adults, £8 for children or £35 for a family ticket (2 adults, 2 children) and can be booked through Queen’s Hall’s website (plus booking fee) or purchased at Bookpoint.
Submit a poster for the Wizard of Oz to [email protected] and you could win a family ticket.
