A good crowd gathered at the Inveraray Inn for the October meeting of the Inveraray and District Accordion and Fiddle Club.
Chairman Roddy MacDiarmid welcomed everyone and asked Fyne Folk to get the evening underway – with Jake on ‘moothie’, Sally Hall on fiddle and Agnes Liddell on keyboard and they were joined by John Kelly on octave mandolin and Grant MacDougall on drums. They played a couple of cracking pipe march sets. A get-well card was signed by all present for Alex John MacLeod, now home from hospital and it is hoped he will be back at the Club soon.
Other supporting players were – John Kelly on guitar and Janine Ashall on wooden whistle; Joe ‘Succoth’ Campbell on ‘moothie’ accompanied by Agnes; Jake on ‘moothie’ and Agnes on keyboard. All their selections were much enjoyed.
The guest artistes were Susan MacFadyen and her Scottish Dance Band, with Susan on accordion, her sister Shona on fiddle, Isobel Hodgson on keyboard and Robert Simpson on drums. They played a very well rehearsed programme, with a nice variety of sets from Gaelic waltzes, various tempos of pipe marches, jigs, reels and a sing-along medley and this took it up to raffle time and the tea break.
The second half started with Jane MacKay, accompanied by Jake and Agnes and she delighted the audience with a lovely rendition of Silver Threads Among the Gold. Jake and Agnes stayed on stage, along with Grant with another nice medley of sets.
It was then back to Susan and Co for more of the same, including a couple of songs from Shona and a fiddle solo and the evening was brought to a close with a rousing set of reels.
The chairman thanked all the artistes for a great night of music and next week the club looks forward to welcoming back Nicky McMichan from Bridge of Earn and his trio for the final night of 2024.
