Kirn Primary publish open letter to Santa about dog fouling

PUPILS and staff from Kirn Primary School in Dunoon have penned an open letter to Santa asking for his help in cleaning up dog poo on pavements.

The letter, which you can read below, is an appeal with a festive twist, directed towards local dog owners to remind them to clean up after their pets in locations around Dunoon, including Hunter Street. It’s understood that teachers and pupils were disgusted by the amount of dog poo on pavements after they walked from the school to Kirn church earlier this month.

Not sure if the big man will be able to clean up such a mess and deliver presents to every child in Argyll and Bute but he might want a word with a few dog owners to do better, otherwise the naughty list beckons, (or a financial penalty).

An open letter to Santa Claus

Dear Santa Claus, – Hello, we are all so excited for Christmas but this is not a Christmas letter.

We are not asking for presents, like toys, such as Furbees, L.O.L. Dolls or Spiderman. We are not asking for skateboards or bikes. We are sending you a letter to tell you about what we saw on our recent walk from Kirn Primary to Kirn and Sandbank Church.

We didn’t see reindeer or elves, no, no, no, what we saw would SHOCK you! We saw a street full of dog poo!

Hunter Street in Kirn was like an obstacle course. We had to keep stopping, looking and dodging around the poo. We like to look after each other, so we had to shout out, “Stop! Look out! There’s dog poo there.” And we did not like this at all. It made us feel sad, angry and really unsafe as we had to walk close to the kerb. We were really lucky that we didn’t fall onto the road.

We know that it is not the dogs fault, they can’t help it. It is the dog owners’ fault. We think they are lazy and disrespectful and we believe that they should pick up the poo or face being on your naughty list.

We know everyone makes mistakes and we hope that they don’t do this again, but if they do, can you maybe consider giving them a piece of coal for their Christmas, or better still, a roll of dog poo bags…

We all love you and hope you have a lovely Christmas
