Martial Arts Clubs Celebrate Chinese New Year

BLAIRMORE AND Ardentinny’s Heavenly Mountain Gate Tai Chi groups marked the Chinese New Year in style last week.

A vibrant celebration showcasing martial arts and cultural traditions took place on Friday, February 7, honouring the Year of the Snake. The event brought together students from both the Tai Chi groups and Innellan’s Katsujinken Karate Kai for an impressive display of skill and discipline.

The audience was treated to an engaging demonstration featuring Tai Chi, Karate, and intricate sword work. The performances continued with a display of Seienchin, a traditional Okinawan Karate form, followed by Tui Sau, a free-flowing two- person combat drill often known as ‘push hands’.

To round off the martial arts performances, students from Innellan delighted spectators with a dynamic Lion Dance, a traditional performance believed to bring luck, health, and prosperity.

Following the displays, attendees enjoyed a grand Chinese buffet, generously provided by The Blairmore Café. This marks the second year of this celebration, with plans already afoot for next year’s festivities.
