Red weather warning for Argyll and Bute

A RARE red weather warning has been issued for Storm Éowyn which could batter Argyll and Bute with 90mph winds tomorrow afternoon.

The storm could be one of the most intense in recent history and the Met office have upgraded their weather warning to red, terming it a ‘danger to life’.

Gusts are expected to widely reach 60-70 mph across much of the country. The worst of the winds from Éowyn could hit Argyll and Bute during daylight hours, with wind gusts reaching up to 80mph.

Exposed locations in the region such as coastal areas, hills, and bridges could experience stronger gusts potentially reaching 100mph.

Wide spread travel disruption for Friday is expected with many ferry and rail services cancelled and there have been warnings of potential power outages across the local region and possible structural damage and uprooted trees.

The Scottish Government’s Resilience operation is working closely with resilience partners and emergency services to prepare for the impact Storm Éowyn and have published the following advice:

🔵call 105 in the event of a power cut

🔵secure loose objects around your property if safe

🔵take care by the coast as there may be large waves and spray

🔵follow Police Scotland travel advice

🔵safely check if friends or neighbours need any help
