Rehearsals for Bute’s annual community panto on December 6 and 7 are now well underway.
The 18-strong cast was delighted when Bute Theatre Company’s patron, acclaimed actress Maureen Beattie OBE, popped into rehearsals at the Discovery Centre last week to lead a workshop.
Irene McGregor, Chair of Bute Theatre Co said: “Maureen’s input and advice were invaluable. and the whole cast agreed it was a massive bonus to get an acting workshop from one of Scotland’s theatre legends. I’m sure it’ll help make this year a show to remember,”
The panto this year is Scrooge – loosely based on the classic Dickens’ story A Christmas Carol.
Irene added: “It’s not your traditional panto, and there are a couple of scary characters, but we’re playing it for laughs.”
As in previous years, the multi-media panto includes animations and filmed scenes as well as live action onstage.
Local children’s charity Achievement Bute organised the filming in the October school holidays. The cast includes children and adults, and behind the scenes there is a whole team of volunteers helping with all aspects of the production including costumes, lighting, make-up, props – and even puppets.
Bute Theatre Co was delighted to receive a generous donation from For Bute to help cover some of the costs of putting on the show.
Tickets will be on sale next week exclusively from Print Point.
