Strachur-Dunoon vice-captain, Cameron Middleton, believes his side will continue to improve after their first two seasons since joining the league.
Speaking to the Observer, Cameron is confident his side can ‘build’ on their rookie and Sophomore years as a collective, adding the merger has gone from ‘strength to strength’.
The player said: ” I think our aim will be to try and give South Two a really good go.
“We know we can compete with the likes of Bute and Kyles, who I think will be right up there this year, so I don’t see why we can’t be challenging for top spot too.
“Our main issue will be numbers, and getting a consistent squad playing most weeks.”
Those who did play managed to steer the side to a respectable third place finish in South Two, six points off second placed Bute and nine behind winners, Inveraray.
But, Cameron is adamant that last year’s inconsistent squad selections won;t trouble them as much this time round: “Numbers did drop towards the end of last year, but we have had a few additions coming in this season so hopefully we’ve got enough to put in a strong campaign.
“We’ve signed John Mcphail from ColGlen, which is a boost for us, he’s a big physical presence in the midfield and I think he will flourish in South Two. “We’ve also picked up Saul Ormiston, formerly of Glenorchy, who gives us another strong option in the back line.
“Brandon Wilson has also committed to playing again, after taking a year out, he’s a very versatile player and it almost feels like a new signing with him returning.”
Perhaps the most impressive inclusion in this year’s squad, though, is 14-year-old Spencer Thoms, with the youngster playing his first full season in senior shinty.
Cameron added: “he’ll be one to keep an eye on this year.”
It is hope the blend of new faces and youthful exuberance can bring success to Strachur-Dunoon this year.
