Suspected 'cannabis soil' dumped in Ardentinny

DOZENS of bags containing suspected soil from a cannabis grow house were dumped in Ardentinny last weekend.

The incident was reported to local police after residents made the discovery on Sunday morning. The large pile of bags were dumped on a path near a lay-by only a few hundred yards from Ardentinny village.

Many of the bags appeared to be brand new and still had a price tag on them and all of them had been filled with what appeared to be ‘loamy soil’, a combination of sand, silt, and clay which is traditionally one of the best soil types for growing cannabis.

One Ardentinny local told this newspaper that this wasn’t an isolated incident and that the flytipping of similar suspected cannabis soil has happened before at the same location, with a similar load dumped there around six months ago.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Enquiries are ongoing following a report of equipment associated with cannabis cultivation being fly-tipped near to Ardentinny, Dunoon, between Friday, March 21 and Sunday, March, 23.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident 1461 of 25 March.”
