After last playing on Hogmanay, winning against Partick Thistle in stunning fashion, Dougie Imrie’s men travel for the second time this season to Mount Florida – this time to the hallowed turf of Hampden, rather than Lesser.

With the two scheduled games after New Year being cancelled, Morton have lost some momentum from an unbeaten run that stretches back seven matches in the league and leaves them six points behind Queen’s Park with two games in hand, whereas the Spiders are fresh off picking up five points in their last two against promotion-chasers Falkirk and Livingston.

However, perhaps the most important factor at play in Saturday’s game was the Glasgow side’s sale of Dom Thomas, with the former club captain and talisman crossing the Irish Sea to join Derry City for a transfer fee that neither club has stated.

The forward scored in the Sinclair Street side’s 1-0 defeat at Lesser Hampden earlier in the season and has been the opponent’s most consistent threat or a number of years.

It could be said, then, that there will never be a better time to play Queen’s Park, with considerable quality having went out the door which is yet to be replaced.

However, it remains to be seen how fit Dougie Imrie’s side is, with a number of injuries reported heading into 2025 – particularly in forward areas.

The timescale for Nathan Shaw and Owen Moffat’s return is unknown, meaning the attacking flanks will lack firepower, meanwhile Dylan Corr is still yet to make a league appearance.

Nevertheless, Imrie’s side will go into the match optimistic, knowing that a win significantly improves their chances of finishing in the top half of the table, and could even start a charge for the play-off’s – with Partick Thistle faltering.
