PROPERTIES across Dunoon have been ablaze with festive lights and decor over the past few weeks but only a select few have surpassed themselves this year.
In an effort to acknowledge the committent and effort, (not to mention the money), which has gone into creating these spectacularly festive homes Dunoon Community Council, along with Dunoon Presents, have announced the winners from their annual ‘best dressed property competition.’
On Saturday night judges scoured the length and breadth of Dunoon and endured a very damp winter’s night to find the ultimate Christmas home. A task which proved extremely challenging on account of such an incredible effort by so many home owners across Dunoon.
However one property stood out from all the rest and this year’s winner of the coveted best dressed residential property title went to John Cunningham of Alexandria Parade, whose stunning display was filled with intricate details and festive charm. The judges praised the effort and creativity, noting that there was ‘so much to look at.’
In the best dressed commercial property category, Ardnahein Care Home in West Bay took the top spot. Their display delighted the judges, featuring a magical Santa’s Grotto complete with a cosy fireplace and cheerful snowmen.
The competition was so close this year that the convener of Dunoon Community Council broke with tradition, awarding two runner-up prizes in the residential category. Hugh Robertson of Victoria Park earned praise for his meticulously planned display, which clearly took hours of careful preparation. Meanwhile, James and Isabelle of the Glebe transformed their small garden into a radiant winter wonderland, complete with its own Santa’s Grotto, where the judges humorously discovered Santa fast asleep.
The runner-up for best dressed commercial property went to Douglas Park Guest House in Kirn. The judges commended their display as ‘simple yet effective,’ with a warm and welcoming festive glow. Each winner received a £50 local gift voucher and all the runners up received a £25 local gift voucher.
Dunoon Community Council extended their thanks to everyone who participated, highlighting the exceptional standard of decorations this year. “The effort and creativity on display were fantastic,” the judges said.
Special thanks were given to Colin Moulson, BID Manager, for donating the prizes and for his continued support of the event. Dunoon Community Council shared a final message: “We wish you and your families a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.”
