‘IN OTHER Words’ by Matthew Seager is an emotional play about one couple’s story, as they meet, fall in love, and navigate through the reality of living with Alzheimer’s disease.
Jane and Arthur fall in love when they hear their song ‘Fly Me To The Moon’ by Frank Sinatra, their song connects them through the years and shows the powerful role of music in our lives. The play is inspired by the author’s experience of working with care home residents suffering from dementia, and the way music was used to help connect them to themselves and their loved ones.
Lauren Fisher, the director of the play, said: “We first performed this play back in 2020 as part of Greenock Players. and since then this production has won several awards at One Act competitions, including best production, and we’ve even taken the play to Kirkwall, Orkney.
“The play features local Dunoon actress Elaine Graham as Jane, and actor Chris Gavin, who has toured the UK and London playing Begbie in Irvine Welsh’s Porno.
“The play is both funny and heart- wrenching, which really speaks to the reality of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. It’s an incredibly important
story to tell, one that we hope speaks to all those who have been impacted with dementia, and we hope that this story helps connect with all those who may be experiencing something similar.”
‘In Other Words’ will be performed at Dunoon Burgh Hall on Sunday, October 12 at 2.30pm and 4.30pm. Tickets are available from the Burgh Hall website.
