A PACKED fundraising event in Strachur has raised more than £4,300 for humanitarian aid and Palestinian solidarity campaigning.
The Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP) Humanitarian Fundraiser was held at Strachur Memorial Hall on Sunday, attracting a large turnout from the local community.
A total of £3,936 was raised for Medical Aid for Palestinians, while a further £370 was donated to the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
The event brought together live music, art, films, fundraising stalls and guest speakers, with organisers describing the afternoon as a resounding success.
Opening proceedings, the local Hub Choir entertained the audience with a medley of songs before a fast-paced auction got underway.
Works donated by local artists, along with vouchers provided by local businesses, went under the hammer and helped raise a significant proportion of the final fundraising total.
The hall reached standing-room-only capacity for speeches from Argyll, Bute and South Lochaber MP Brendan O’Hara and local councillor Gordon Blair.
Visitors were also able to watch films, enjoy live music and browse stalls selling Palestinian products.
The fundraiser had been organised to support the humanitarian work of Medical Aid for Palestinians, with local volunteers, artists and businesses contributing to the event.
Organisers thanked everyone who helped make the afternoon possible.
They said: “We would like to thank all volunteers, artists and businesses who made this event such a resounding success.
“The £3,936 raised will support Medical Aid for Palestinians, while the additional £370 will go to the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign.”
