DUNOON ARGYLL Bowling Club was the place to be on Saturday as members and visitors enjoyed glorious sunshine for the club’s annual Gents Triples Tournament.
A superb entry of 20 triples from clubs across Cowal and Bute took to a green that was in excellent condition after being freshly cut and running particularly well. The quality of the surface helped produce a consistently high standard of bowling throughout the day.
The competition began with four games played on a random-draw basis, with every team looking to accumulate enough points to secure one of the coveted semi-final places. After a total of 40 closely contested games, the four highest-scoring teams progressed to the knockout stages.
Following two competitive semi-finals and an entertaining final, the title was claimed by Brian Robertson (Kirn & HQ), Robert Newlands (Bogleha) and Stevie Scott (Bogleha), who combined impressively to lift this year’s trophy.
Finishing as runners-up were Robert Flint and Craig Houston of Dunoon Argyll, together with Ben Jackson of Kirn & HQ. Reaching the semi-finals were the Kirn & HQ trio of Daniel Baker, Cammy Boyd and Ian Goffin, along with the Dunoon Argyll team of Willie Miller, Jim Campbell and Robert Menzies Jnr.
Accepting the trophy on behalf of the winning team, Robert Newlands congratulated Dunoon Argyll Bowling Club on another superbly organised tournament and paid tribute to the club’s lady members for keeping players and spectators well fed and refreshed throughout the day.
Bringing proceedings to a close, club president Jim Campbell thanked David Gillan Solutions for sponsoring the event, noting that such valued support helps ensure the popular competition continues to thrive.
Mr Campbell also echoed the appreciation shown to the club’s lady members for providing lunch, afternoon refreshments and warm hospitality throughout the day. He concluded by congratulating the winners, thanking all the competitors for their support, acknowledging those who donated raffle prizes, and wishing everyone the very best for the remainder of the bowling season.
