SCOTLAND’S Kyle Randalls and England’s Eve Robson powered their way to the top honours in the Heavy Athletics at this year’s Cowal Gathering.
The traditional heavy events once again provided plenty of drama at Dunoon Stadium, with the hammer, weights and caber among the contests drawing big cheers from the Gathering crowds.
Randalls emerged as the overall winner of the men’s competition, ahead of Craig Winslow in second and Thomas Thilbaut in third.
His performance also saw him collect a string of individual trophies, including the Sutherland Trophy as Cowal Gathering scratch champion and the John Tyre Trophy for Tossing the Caber.
Randalls also lifted the Janelle Currie Memorial Trophy for Weight for Distance.
In the women’s competition, England’s Eve Robson claimed the overall title, with Emmerleigh Barter finishing runner-up and Mhairi Porterfield taking third.
Robson was also crowned the women’s caber champion, earning the Clan Currie Society Shield for Top Female Caber, while her overall performance secured the David Allen Sangster Memorial Trophy for Top Female Athlete.
There was further home success in the international team contest, with Scotland taking the International Heavy Events Team Trophy.
