DUNOON FC suffered late heartbreak at Parklea as MISC FC fought back from two goals down to claim victory against a side reduced to 10 men.
Just six days after their memorable win over Blackthorn Rovers, Dunoon travelled to Port Glasgow looking to continue their encouraging form ahead of the new league campaign.
And they could hardly have asked for a better start, with debutant Reese McDonald opening the scoring after just eight minutes.
Jamie Robertson switched play to Lewis Black, who drove down the line before delivering a left-footed cross into the box. McDonald controlled the ball before finishing well to mark his debut with a goal.
Ten minutes later, the newcomer struck again to double Dunoon’s advantage.
After Dunoon regained possession, Robertson played another well-weighted ball in behind the MISC defence. McDonald reached it ahead of the goalkeeper and, despite the keeper’s attempts to stop him, managed to find the net for his second of the afternoon.
Dunoon’s impressive start was then disrupted when fellow debutant Gregor Mitchell was shown a second yellow card.
The decision proved controversial, with Dunoon maintaining that Mitchell had not committed the foul for which his second booking was issued.
Despite being reduced to ten men, the visitors reached half-time with their 2-0 advantage intact.
The momentum shifted after the break as MISC looked to make their numerical advantage count.
The hosts pulled one back with a long-range effort before drawing level from a set-piece.
Dunoon battled to hold on for a draw, but MISC completed their comeback with a winner in the closing stages to deny the visitors.
Scott Melville was named Dunoon’s man of the match for the second successive week following another strong defensive performance.
Dunoon are now preparing for the start of their league campaign on September 27, with fixtures still to be confirmed.
The club has also announced its committee and officials for the coming season, with Samantha Prentice named chairperson and Jake Campbell appointed club captain.
