Christmas traffic lights on the Rest

TEN weeks of essential works on the Rest and Be Thankful begin on Monday and run until two days before Christmas.

Transport Scotland said temporary traffic lights will be in place along with a 30mph speed limit.

Weather-permitting, the restrictions will be lifted over the festive season, then be put back into operation in January.

BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, said the work is “essential” and will focus on lower slope stabilisation and the installation of stock-proof fencing, both of which are vital to improving the resilience of the route.

Michael Baxter, BEAR Scotland’s North West Improvements Scheme Manager said: “These essential maintenance activities will help to ensure resilience of the A83 at the Rest and Be Thankful, helping to keep Argyll and Bute open for business.

“Hillside weather conditions will continue to be monitored closely to ensure the safety of road users.

“We thank the local community and road users for their patience while we carry out these essential works.”

Access for emergency services and scheduled bus services will be maintained throughout the project and Traffic Scotland said consultation has taken place with all relevant stakeholders to ensure awareness of the traffic management arrangements.
