CONVERSATIONS around Bute’s Town of Culture 2028 bid are continuing to gather pace, with schools, local groups and residents across the island getting involved and sharing their ideas.
This week, Mhairi Mackenzie, who is driving the community engagement for the bid, visited Rothesay Joint Campus to speak to children from the Nursery and Primary Pupil Council about the nomination.
The pupils highlighted a lack of things for some age groups to do and put forward ideas of their own, including a “Buddy Bench” where children could find someone to play with.
Community get-togethers have been taking place at the Kingarth Hotel, Kilchattan Bay Post Office and the Winter Garden, with more drop-in sessions planned at the Bank of Ideas.
Mhairi Mackenzie told The Isle of Bute News: “The response so far has been brilliant. We’re hearing thoughtful, creative ideas from people of all ages and from people right across the island, which is exactly what this process is about.
“We still have some weeks to go, so I’d really encourage everyone to get involved, join a conversation or send us your ideas. This bid belongs to Bute, and we want as many voices as possible to help shape it.”
