AFTER two previous close encounters, ColGlen travelled away to Badenoch hoping for at least a point from their final meeting with current Premiership champions Kingussie. However, ColGlen had a nightmare start after Kingussie cut open their defence going two up within the first three minutes with goals from Alexander Michie and former Glasgow Mid Argyll player Calum Mclay.
The Glen responded well and just two minutes later Neily McNaughton put a well taken shot on target forcing Macgregor to make an impressive save, but Sam Bulloch latched onto the rebound and rattled the ball into the back of the net to give ColGlen a glimmer of hope.
Clay, who was in centre for the home team, surged forward to score again on 30 minutes after a goalmouth scramble. Then, just prior to half-time, Jack Nelson made it four despite a dispute over a Kingussie forward being offside.
The second-half saw ColGlen become much better in possession. Substitutes Kyle Kerr, Marcus Keith and James Hamilton all came on to provide fresh legs. With five minutes on gone in the second-half, Cluanie Fraser on the wing passed a through-ball to Kerr. With just Macgregor to beat, agonisingly his shot just peeled wide in what was the best the Cowal side could muster.
Despite the disappointment as the full-time whistle went, ColGlen can take a lot of encouragement from a hard-working performance against a very well-organised Kingussie who deserved their win.
