AVERAGE speed cameras are likely to remain on the A82 beside Loch Lomond until the end of October, a report has revealed.
But speeding motorists in Tarbet “remain a concern”, while maintenance work at the Rest and Be Thankful is set to resume in September.
Transport Scotland officials also continue to carry out speed surveys on the A83 and A82 after 20mph limits were introduced.
The details feature in a report to go before Argyll and Bute Council’s Bute and Cowal community planning group at its meeting on Tuesday, August 11.
The report said: “Temporary average speed cameras (TASC) are now in place on the A82 between Luss–Tarbet. These will likely be in place until the end of October.
“Initial monitoring has identified that vehicle speeds within Tarbet remain a concern. As a result, additional measures are currently being investigated to further encourage compliance and improve safety for residents, visitors, and road users.
“We are developing a package of further interventions, with implementation currently planned for autumn 2026, subject to the necessary approvals and programming.
“After a planned pause in traffic management operations at the Rest and Be Thankful, we intend to resume essential maintenance works from September 14.
“Initial activities will focus on the lower slopes adjacent to the A83 trunk road, with subsequent works including channel maintenance, debris flow barrier maintenance, and westbound drainage improvements.
“These critical interventions are programmed to continue through to spring 2027, helping to maintain the resilience, safety, and reliability of this key transport corridor.
“Embankment stabilisation works between Loch Restil and Butterbridge will continue until mid-September using temporary traffic signals. These works are to be completed and the TM (traffic management) removed before we continue with the planned maintenance works at the Rest and Be Thankful.”
The report also said that filter material renewal and drainage upgrade works at Arden Roundabout would continue this financial year, using a recycling technique involving cleaning and reusing stone in the system.
It added: “This method eliminates the need for excavation and replacement with new materials, significantly reducing waste, conserving resources, and lowering the overall carbon footprint of the scheme.”
