Ardentinny Bowling Club had a successful annual Gents Day last Sunday, with bowlers coming from local clubs and further afield — including Newmilns, Lochgoilhead and the Isle of Bute.

The weather was cold to start, but eventually the sun made an appearance in the afternoon. There were a host of great bowls played throughout the day, with the 16 teams playing four matches in a round robin.

This resulted in the four semi-finalists, who were Bogleha, led by Stevie Scott, versus Kirn & HQ (1), skipped by Cammy Boyd; and Ardbeg, led by Calum MacPhail, v Upper Cowal (2), skipped by Sean Kemp.

From the semis, Kirn & HQ (1) and Ardbeg came out on top to face each other in the final, and what a final it was. The match provided the spectators with some amazing bowls to watch from both teams, with the Ardbeg team of Calum MacPhail, John Wilson and Martin Young coming out on top to win the Gents Invitation Shield.

President Dougie Menzies presented the shield to the Ardbeg team and thanked all the bowlers and spectators for their support of the club.

He thanked the club’s sponsors, Lydia Moodie, Western Ferries, Western Ferries, The Ardentinny, The Blairmore, Ross MacArthur Contractors and Cothouse Services.

Special thanks were also given to the ladies of the club who prepared and served food and drink throughout the day, and the few gents who helped the ladies when required and kept the day going on an even keel.
