IT HAS been a memorable few weeks for Ardentinny Bowling Club, with members celebrating national recognition from Bowls Scotland before hosting a successful and well-supported Ladies’ Day.
On Wednesday, July 1, Bowls Scotland’s West development officer Holly Hamilton visited the club to present members with the BowlsMark Bronze Award.
BowlsMark is Bowls Scotland’s club accreditation scheme, recognising clubs that provide safe, effective and welcoming environments while promoting good practice, developing well-trained coaches and volunteers, and encouraging lifelong participation in the sport through sustainable development.
Club members welcomed the opportunity to meet Holly and hear more about the accreditation scheme, with the award representing recognition from Bowls Scotland for the hard work that has gone into achieving the bronze standard.
The celebrations continued with the club’s annual Ladies’ Day, which attracted bowlers from Ardentinny and neighbouring kindred clubs for a day of friendly but competitive action.
Proceedings got underway with a charity spider before 12 triples competed over four games of six ends. Following a well-earned lunch break after the second game, scores were calculated to determine the semi-finalists.
Barbara Duff, Christine McEwan and Shirley Sykes took on Christine Richmond, Rachel Boyd and Alex Atkins, while Myra Campbell and Anne Wood teamed up with Joan Evans to face Eilidh Simpson, Allison Strachan and Babs Parkinson.
The final saw Simpson, Strachan and Parkinson come up against Duff, McEwan and Sykes in a closely contested match. After an entertaining battle, Eilidh Simpson, Allison Strachan and Babs Parkinson emerged victorious to claim the Ladies’ Day title.
Club president Dougie presented the prizes before the celebrations continued, with competitors rounding off the day in good spirits with a dance on the green.
The club thanked the many volunteers who helped make the event a success, including those working in the kitchen, behind the bar and throughout the clubhouse. Thanks were also extended to sponsors Western Ferries, The Ardentinny, The Blairmore, Ross MacArthur Contractors and Cot House Services, as well as to all the visiting ladies from kindred clubs whose support helped make the day such a success.
