LAST weekend the Brandane Bulls played Port Glasgow Juniors in an amended fixture.
Both teams started well and had early chances but cancelled each other out early on with good goalkeeping and defending.
However, the Bulls were the first to find the net when Oscar finished with his signature move, going round the keeper to slot the ball into an empty net. They then made it 2-0 when Oscar chased down the Port Glasgow defender, won the ball, and cut it back to the penalty spot for Jay, who finished first time with his left foot.
Just before half-time, they increased their lead once again when Jay made a great run and got onto an even better long through pass to slot it home. Both Oscar and Jay have now hit the double-figure mark for the season, each on 10 goals.
But Port Glasgow came out with a point to prove after the half-time break and got onto the scoresheet within five minutes, with a great turn and finish from outside the box making it 3-1.
Port Glasgow were creating more and more chances, but the Bulls managed to keep them at bay until roughly midway through the second half, when they got their second goal from a great free-kick.
With the match at 3-2, the game was in the balance and looked like Port Glasgow would draw level when they won a penalty.
However, the taker put the ball past the post, a big let-off for the Bulls side.
After that narrow escape, Harris dribbled with the ball from just outside his own box into the opposition box and was brought down.
The penalty for the Bulls was also missed when Oscar struck the bar, missing a chance to seal the game.
Port Glasgow kept pressing and had some great chances, which were saved by Sam in goal. Luckily for the Bulls, the full-time whistle came, and with it, the three points were secured.
The win continues the Bulls’ great run of form lately, with six wins from the past eight fixtures.
A spokesperson for the team said: “Well done to the team, a great effort and doing the island proud.”
Players of the team were Jack and Sam. “Jack played his role at the back very well today and had a solid game. Sam made some crucial saves which kept the three points going home with the Bulls.”
