BRANDANE Bulls returned on Saturday with an action-packed day, kicked off with a match against Thorn Athletic before a Football Fun Day, all in aid of local charity, Calum’s Cabin.
The Bulls started slowly in the first half and were made to pay when they went down 1–0 through a magnificent strike from Thorn’s No.16, who showed early on he was going to be a handful for the young Bulls side, as the Bulls had very few chances to shout about before half-time.
But they began to play better football in the second half and created numerous chances for themselves.
It wasn’t long before they found themselves level with a wonder strike from Kai – a long-range free-kick.
The Bulls kept pressing and took the lead through Oscar, with a lovely finish slotted calmly past the keeper.
The Bulls took confidence from their resurgence, kept pressing, and should have pulled away through their good play; however, some good saves and a couple of efforts narrowly past the post kept Thorn in the game.
Then disaster struck as Thorn drew themselves level with ten minutes to go, with some neat play down their right-hand side and a cutback for their striker allowing him to finish.
The match ended 2–2 after a fairly contested match-up between the sides.
Player of the Team went to Clay, who put in a solid performance in midfield.
The club wished to thank Duncan, Caroline and Jenna for their continued support, and Callows for the catering.
The games continued long into the afternoon as many gathered for the Fun Day.
Among a host of activities was the opportunity to beat the Brandanes keeper, as well as a crossbar challenge and races, with face painting available too.
The winners of the closest to centre spot challenge were Ailsa Lilley (adults) and Kai McFarlane (children), and both have won £48 to spend on Brandane Bulls merchandise at the club shop.
The day was rounded off with a resounding victory for the Brandanes, as they recorded a 3–0 win over Riverside.
