Bute bowler battles the best: Brandane seeing bowls success during indoor season

BUTE bowler Kieran Reynolds enjoyed a strong showing on the national stage at the weekend after reaching the quarter-finals of a PBA UK Open qualifier, marking an encouraging milestone in his indoor career.

Reynolds was competing in his first event on the Professional Bowls Association circuit and was pleased with his performance in a field packed with top-class players.

He said: “It’s definitely right up there.
“There are only a few PBA events each year, so every one is really competitive and always attracts top players. Winning of these events qualifies you for one of the three biggest indoor competitions about so the standard is always extremely high and every match is challenging.”

Reynolds said he was pleased with how he performed in his first attempt at that level and hopes to build on the experience in future seasons.

He added: “Individually, I recently had a decent run in my first PBA UK Open qualifier, reaching the quarter-finals, which I was pleased with, especially with the standard being so high. I hope to enter a few more next year and see how far I can go.”

Alongside his individual success, Reynolds is also enjoying a strong indoor season at club level. He currently represents Glasgow Indoor Bowling Club, with the club progressing deep into major competitions.

On his involvement with the Glasgow organisation, he said: “We’ve had a great season so far having recently qualified for the SIBA Premier League Final, and we’re also into the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup which are both coming up in a few weeks time.”

With key fixtures still to come indoors, Reynolds is already looking ahead to the transition back to the outdoor game later in the spring, adding: “I am looking forward to the next few months continuing a successful indoor season before the outdoor season starts up in late April.”
