Bute County & Cowal Cricket get off the mark

AFTER coming up short in their opening league fixture against Clydesdale, Bute County and Cowal Cricket Club got off the mark with an impressive victory over Milngavie.

On a beautiful spring afternoon in Rothesay, on a well-prepared wicket thanks to the tireless work of volunteers, Bute skipper Louis Ware won the toss and decided to bowl against Milngavie. Mark Crichton and Lindsay Towers opened the bowling with Milngavie making a promising start to reach 80-1.

A tremendous catch by Guy Crichton off the bowling of Ware dismissed Milngavies star batsman and wickets then fell regularly with the opposition all out for 107. Ware starred with a five-wicket haul with Towers (three wickets) and Mark Crichton (two wickets) completing the set.

Ware and Endracott opened the batting and went about the run chase, with Ware reaching his 50 in double quick time. Endracott stuck around for a well-earned 16 and Bute & Cowal won the game with plenty of overs to spare for the loss of six wickets.

Bute County and Cowals next game is away to Kelburne on Sunday. Anyone interested in playing cricket should contact Lindsay on 07849003057.
