Bute Highland Dancing Competition returns with flair

THE BUTE Highland Dancing Competition returned for a second successful year, welcoming dancers from across the region. Performers from the island’s three local dance schools were joined by competitors from Argyllshire, Ayrshire, Inverclyde and Renfrewshire for a lively and well- attended event.

Judges Georgina Kee- McCarter (Londonderry) and Elaine Skelding (Corby) presided over the competition, with scrutineers Shendl Russell (Alloa), Mary- Beth Robertson and Gary McGregor ensuring accuracy in the scoring.

Organiser Margaret Anne Speirs warmly thanked everyone who took part or came along to support the event. Special appreciation was extended to the organising committee and the many volunteers who helped make the day such a success.

In the Beginners section, Zoe Tipling placed first in the seven years category, with Elsie Ray Young in second — Zoe also qualified for the Nationals.

In the eight/nine years category, Leya McMillan secured first place, followed by Poppy May Black in second, with Emily Campbell going through to Nationals.

The ten years group saw Stella McEleny take first and Chloe Jamison take second, with Chloe also heading to Nationals.

In the 11 & over category, Isla Pearson came first and Addison Worthey was second; both Isla and Ella McGregor qualified for the Nationals.

In the Novice section, Cozy Allan won the ten & under category, with Sophia Osborne in second place and progressing to Nationals.

The 11 & over group was won by Sophie McFarlane, with Isabella McGoldrick finishing second — Sophie also qualified for Nationals.

In the Intermediate section, Olivia Durrant came first in the 11 & under category, with Ella Docherty in second; Olivia goes on to Nationals. In the 12 & over group, Sophie Mellor took first place, with Isabella Gray in second — Sophie also heads to Nationals.

In the Premier section, Olivia McManus placed first in the 12 & under group, followed by Lily Davies in second; Olivia qualified for Nationals.

In the 15 & under category, Leah Morrow came first and Lois Cook second, with Leah moving on to Nationals.

In the Adult category, Summer Leonard claimed first place, with Katie Aird in second — Katie also qualified for Nationals.
