Cowal Badminton Association brought its 2025/26 Boat League season to a close at the end of last month, with an entertaining final night of matches as teams gave it their all despite the title already being decided.
In one half of the draw, Waverley faced Arran in a competitive encounter. Waverley made a strong start, winning three of the opening four matches, including a closely fought mixed game that finished 21–19, 21–18. Arran battled back to stay in contention, but Waverley secured the overall win in the doubles to take the match 8–3.
On the other side, Caledonia took on Bute and delivered another impressive performance. Despite strong resistance from Bute’s top pairing, Caledonia controlled much of the tie, winning the majority of the mixed matches before sharing the doubles to seal an 8–4 victory.
The results confirmed Caledonia as league champions, finishing ahead of Waverley, Bute and Arran, rounding off a competitive and closely contested season.
The action didn’t stop there, with the season’s final championships also taking place last month. The Under-21 Mixed Doubles got proceedings underway with a thrilling three-set battle, as Eilidh and Sean edged past Abbey and Alfie 21–11, 19–21, 21–19 in a closely fought contest.
In the Ladies Doubles, Laura and Lyndsay successfully defended their title with a strong 21–17, 21–11 win over Niamh and Kathryn.
The evening concluded with a nail-biting Gents Doubles final, where Robin and Liam held off a determined challenge from Craig and Lester to retain their title, winning 21–18, 13–21, 22–20.
Earlier that week, the Mixed Doubles Championships were held. The semis started with a three-setter between Lyndsay and Lester and Vanessa and Robin. Lyndsay and Lester came out on top and went on to play Stewart and Laura in the final. It was a closely fought first two sets, but Lyndsay and Lester came out on top 17–21, 26–24, 21–8.
Cowal Badminton Association’s season has ended on a high, with a strong show of competitiveness in badminton across Cowal, with players now looking ahead to the next campaign.
