INNELLAN Carpet Bowling Club is celebrating a flying start to the new season, with membership rising and all four tables back in play for the first time in years.
Attendance has built week on week with 14 players on opening night, 11 on the second, 16 on the third and 17 on Tuesday, October 28.
The surge includes seven newcomers giving the sport a try during the first month alone.
Club organisers say the figures are ‘hugely encouraging’ and credit a mix of loyal regulars and fresh faces for the buzz around Tuesday nights.
“It’s brilliant to see the hall busy again,” a spokesperson said. “Getting all four mats down is something we haven’t managed in quite some time — it shows how much momentum we’ve got.”
The club also paid tribute to long-standing members for sticking with the team through good times and lean, and gave a special nod to the volunteers who assemble and dismantle the tables each week. “It’s no small job, and every pair of hands helps,” they added.
Sponsorship has played its part, with thanks offered to Western Ferries Ltd, Bert Mitchell and The Royal Bar, and the Dunoon Observer for highlighting the club’s efforts.
The club says there’s still room for more members — whether you’re a complete beginner or a lapsed player keen to return.
“It’s social, competitive, and great fun,” a spokesperson said. “If you’ve been thinking about it, why not give it a go?”
For details on how to join, pop along on a Tuesday evening or contact the club via its usual channels.
