Councillors seek report on Oban North Pier storm damage

COUNCILLORS are set to request a report on repairs to the pontoon facilities at Oban’s North Pier as a result of Storm Eowyn.

A summary of works required since the storm on Friday, January 24, 2025, and works that remain to be completed, is requested as part of the report.

Councillor Andrew Vennard (Conservative, Oban North and Lorn) will move the motion, which has been seconded by Councillor Amanda Hampsey (Conservative, Oban South and the Isles).

It will go before councillors at a meeting of Argyll and Bute Council’s Oban Lorn and the Isles (OLI) area committee on Wednesday, March 11.

The motion asks the committee to resolve and agree “Council officers are hereby instructed to prepare a report on the repairs to the pontoon facilities at the North Pier in Oban which have been required as a result of Storm Eowyn.

“Said report shall include a summary of the works which have been completed to date; a summary of the works which may be required in due course; estimates of the timescales for the completion of any relevant works [and] estimates of any relevant costs for the works involved.

“That the said report shall be provided for the next ordinary meeting of the area committee (being the meeting of the OLI area committee which is scheduled to take place on June 10).

“Further notes that and acknowledges that reports in relation to the repairs to the pontoon facilities at the North Pier in Oban as a result of Storm Eowyn (and other marine assets of the council) may also be reported to meetings of council, the policy and resources committee, the environment, development and infrastructure committee, and the harbour board, in due course, with relevant recommendations for consideration by members at those meetings, if required.”
