Cowal F.C. hit seven in entertaining Local Select friendly

COWAL F.C. continued preparations for the new season with an entertaining and competitive 7-3 victory over a Local Select side on Sunday, May 24.

The opposition, arranged by PJ Shields from the local six and nine-a-side leagues, provided a very tough test for the Cowal squad in what proved to be an enjoyable afternoon of football played in glorious sunshine.

Despite the competitive nature of the match, the focus throughout the day remained firmly on enjoying the occasion, building fitness and continuing preparations ahead of the new campaign beginning in August.

Star of the show was Caoimhe Cryans, who earned Player of the Match honours after helping herself to an impressive hat-trick.

Cowal FC’s matchday squad featured Ramona Fomina, Fay Robertson, Ruth MacPherson, Emmerson Low, Layla Finnegan, Shannon Finnegan, Skye Kilgallon, Carla Colquhoun, Julka Gunn, Claire Segeren and Caoimhe Cryans.

Following the match, the squad were treated to food and refreshments at the Lorne by the club’s new sponsor, Hirsiset Scotland.

Locally run, Hirsiset Scotland works in partnership with a Finnish log house manufacturer and has recently come on board to support the growing Cowal F.C. setup.

The club also extended thanks to the Local Select side for an excellent game and hopes to arrange another fixture in the near future as preparations continue towards the new season. Thanks were also extended to coach John Colquhoun for agreeing to referee the game.

Attention now turns to upcoming fixtures, including participation in the Police five-a-side tournament and a mixed 11-a-side friendly against friends from Eastfield United, who travel to Dunoon for a match on Sunday, June 21.
