Cowal teams prepare for home stages - David and Jenny Robertson

ALSO RETURNING to the stages are husband and wife team David and Jenny Robertson, who will make their fourth attempt at the Argyll Rally in their Ford Fiesta.

Their preparations have not been without drama, after a visit to Kilmodan Primary School resulted in some unexpected repair work.

The couple explained: “On our way home from visiting the school last week we had forgotten to secure the bonnet after showing the children the engine. Whilst driving home the bonnet came up giving us both a fright and shattering the windscreen. Thankfully this was quickly fixed.”

The Fiesta has also had some improvements ahead of this year’s event, including the addition of a roof scoop in the hope of keeping conditions inside the car a little cooler.

Despite having competed three times before, David and Jenny say the excitement of taking part in their home rally has not faded.

They said: “We still get excited about the rally, especially with it being our local event. The community really get behind us which is great.”

This year also brings a change inside the car, with Jenny taking on the role of reading the pace notes after completing training earlier in the year.

They added: “Our main difference this year is Jen is reading the pace notes.“She did a course earlier in the year and is feeling more confident. Here’s hoping Davy will listen to her.”

After previous attempts have not gone entirely to plan, the couple are keeping their ambitions realistic.

Asked what success would look like this year, they joked: “To get round the second corner.”
