FOR MATT Youden and Ross Bell, this year’s rally is about unfinished business.
The pair return after their 2025 hopes ended early following a crash which forced them out of the competition.
Before their exit, they had already made a strong impression — climbing from 99th place up to 51st.
Now, with a new car and plenty of determination, they are ready to go again.
Matt said: “Our preparations this year have mainly been around preparing the car. We have a new car after our slight mishap at the rally last year. There’s been a lot of late nights and head scratching getting it ready.
“We’ve had a lot of help locally so a big thanks to all that have helped. We couldn’t have done it without them.”
Despite last year’s disappointment, the pair are heading into the event with confidence. Matt added: “I would say we’re both feeling more relaxed this year but also excited. We can’t wait to get going again. We look forward to it all year and enjoy the buzz it creates around the town.”
This year, their goal is simple — a clean run and a chance to show what they can do.
They said: “We were really disappointed after we crashed out last year after we’d climbed up to 51st after starting at 99. We’re hoping to have a good clean run and get to the finish and see where we are.”
The final preparations will involve reviewing last year’s footage, adjusting pace notes and, if time allows, a slightly more relaxed approach.
Matt joked: “If we’re lucky, we might get to the pub fo ra pint.”
