Cowal's Day Of Delights -A Kettle That Keeps Singing

No Top Field report would be complete without mention of Artie’s Singing Kettle.

Since 1974, Artie Trezise has been delighting generations of weans – and their parents and grandparents– with timeless songs like ‘The Big Ship Sails’ and ‘Ye Cannae Shove Yer Grannie Aff a Bus’.

Now 78, Artie still bounds about the stage with youthful energy, leading call-and- response choruses that had toddlers, mums, dads and even grannies belting out the words.

“Ah sang thae songs when I wis wee,” said one grandmother, “and noo my grand-daughter’s daein the same.”

For many, Artie is as much a national treasure as the games themselves.

Let’s hope the kettle will keep singing for a while yet.
