SHEEP and beef farmers are being invited to sign up for a trio of hands- on ‘Data made easy’ workshops designed to help make the most of on- farm hardware and software for EID, weighing and herd/flock management.
Run by Monitor Farm Scotland, the sessions offer one-to-one advice on farmers’ own set-ups, with practical tips to streamline data flow, link kit together and fix niggling issues that slow work down.
Leading the events is independent farm technology specialist Matt Blyth of Blyth Livestock Advisory Services (BLAS). A former flock manager and early adopter of EID for performance recording, he now helps farms across the UK use their own data to improve animal management and business decisions.
“These workshops will help people understand their own farm technology, get the best set-up on farm and improve decision-making and profitability,” said Matt. “It’s about making the technology work for you.”
The dates and times of the workshops are; Monday, November 10 – Ayrshire: NFU office, Ayr market. Tuesday, November 11, – Roxburgh: Border Union meeting room. Wednesday, November 12 – Stirlingshire: UA Stirling.
Places are limited to 12 per workshop to ensure dedicated support, so pre- booking is essential. Attendees will be asked in advance what equipment they plan to bring and what they want to achieve—whether that’s understanding a current set-up, learning new software,
improving data recording, connecting EID to weighing, troubleshooting, or turning records into decisions.
Iona Smith, Monitor Farm regional adviser, said the focus is on simple wins: “Technology should simplify and streamline daily tasks while optimising animal performance. These small, practical workshops let farmers talk through their set-up, iron out issues and identify how best to run systems in their business. Whether you’re using ruminant tech like Tru-Test or Gallagher, or just getting started, we’ll help connect the dots between hardware, software and decision-making.”
