RETROSPECTIVE planning permission has been recommended for nine campervan pitches at a garden centre outside Dunoon.
Sandy Owen’s application for Shoreside Garden Centre, at 113 Marine Parade, has attracted eight objections from the public along with four expressions of support.
Members of Argyll and Bute Council’s planning, protective services and licensing committee (PPSL) will rule on the application at its meeting on Wednesday, October 21.
The matter is required to go before the committee due to an objection by roads officers.
But other officials from the authority have stated that the proposal will bring economic benefits to the area, as well as saying there is an identified demand for motorhome accommodation.
An officer said in a report: “Retrospective planning permission is sought for nine campervan pitches and one overspill pitch. Each pitch would have electric hook-ups and access to drinking water.
“Existing mature trees (two) are proposed to be retained, with additional landscaping and biodiversity planting.
“Visual impacts are considered acceptable due to the site’s location and proposed landscaping. The development is considered consistent with Local Development 2 design policies.
“The nearest dwelling is approximately 62 metres away. No significant impacts are identified regarding privacy, overlooking, overshadowing or loss of light. Public protection has raised no objection, although a caravan site licence will be required.
“The roads authority maintains an objection primarily due to a section of private access road that exceeds preferred gradient standards.
“However, officer assessment concludes that the issues can be mitigated through conditions and access improvement works.
“Because the roads objection remains unresolved, the application requires determination by the PPSL committee.”
