DUNOON Grammar School has launched a refreshed vision and set of core values that place relationships, inclusion, and wellbeing at the heart of school life.
It’s been more than 10 years since the school last set out their vision and direction and following months of collaboration between pupils, staff, and families, the new vision and core values reflect what makes DGS special.
The new Vision Statement commits the school to building a respectful, inclusive, and future-focused learning community where every young person feels valued, inspired, and empowered to succeed.
It also places people and relationships at the heart of school life, emphasising the importance of belonging, inclusion, and aspiration key principles that define Dunoon Grammar School’s identity and its role within the wider Cowal community.
The school’s refreshed set of core values form the acronym CLEAR, standing for Commitment, Love, Equity, Ambition, and Respect. At the heart of the vision are the school’s CLEAR Values:
Commitment A dedication to learning, caring for others, and living out the schools values each day.
Love–A culture of kindness, compassion, and empathy that strengthens relationships across the school.
Equity–An inclusive approach that celebrates diversity and ensures everyone can succeed.
Ambition–A drive to aim high, act with integrity, and pursue excellence.
Respect–A shared responsibility to value ourselves, others, and our environment.
These values underpin everything the school does from learning and teaching to relationships and community engagement.
Dunoon Grammar’s aims further set out the school’s vision in action: one community building strong relationships, teamwork, and pride in both school and local area. Every learner ensuring every young person feels safe, included, and celebrated for their unique talents and abilities. A future full of possibility preparing pupils with the skills, values, and confidence to thrive in a complex and changing world.
Head teacher, David Mitchell, said: “Our proposed new vision, values and aims will be more than just words on a poster they will reflect who we are as a school and what we stand for. We are proud to have shaped them together with our pupils and staff. Dunoon Grammar is, and always will be, a school built on community, compassion, and ambition.
“The launch will mark a renewed commitment to ensuring that every learner at Dunoon Grammar School is supported to achieve their potential while remaining rooted in the caring, vibrant community that defines the school.”
Mr Mitchell added: “As a school at the heart of our community, we deeply value your voice. We’re eager to hear your thoughts on our new proposed Vision, Values, and Aims, and warmly invite community members to share their feedback. We hope to gather responses by the end of October, ahead of officially launching our new Vision, Values, and Aims in early November 2025.”
