Dunoon’s Angel Tree brings Christmas cheer to dozens of families

The Angel Tree campaign at local hardware shop Dae It Yersel has once again shown the strength of community spirit in Dunoon, helping to make Christmas a little easier for families across Cowal.
This year’s campaign supported 35 local families, with each nominated household receiving gifts and food vouchers thanks to the generosity of local residents and businesses. Every angel taken from the tree represented a child or adult in need, ensuring that presents were waiting under the tree and food on the table this Christmas.
Organiser Helena McLay paid tribute to the town’s response, saying the support received had far exceeded anything we could have hoped for.
She added: “To the local businesses who donated, and to everyone who gave food vouchers and gifts, thank you. We may be a small town, but we have the biggest heart imaginable.”
The Angel Tree, a now well-established festive tradition at Dae It Yersel, has grown year on year. Last Christmas alone, the scheme supported 90 children across 34 families, with help coming from schools, nurseries, community groups and individuals across the area.
Once again, Dunoon has proved that kindness and community lie at the heart of Christmas.
