DUNOON Youth Football League (DYFL) 2010’s had their first game back after the Christmas break at the weekend, as they delivered a well deserved win to kick-off the second half of the season.
DYFL started the game on the front foot being very direct with some great link up play, the coaches could tell each player was pressing the ball with intent forcing the opposition into errors whilst maintaining great defensive shape.
The side’s first goal arrived soon after and came from good link-up play between Alexander and Spike.
Alexander played a through ball to Spike who passed it across the box to Aaron’s, his shot was blocked but Alf was ready for the rebound to put the ball in the top right corner.
But Stamperland pulled a goal back after a lapse of concentration from the Cowal side and the half ended 1-1.
The second-half was very much a back and forward game for both teams, but DYFL got their second goal from a set-piece.
Sam stepped up and took a smart free-kick which went under the wall and nestled in the bottom right corner to make it 2-1.
For the remainder of the game DYFL kept fighting with everything they had and got just reward for their efforts, earning a valuable win.
A spokesperson for the coaches said: “It was amazing to see the togetherness of you all today and the coach for the opposing team passed comment on how physical we were today and that the better team won.
“Special thanks to Finn for stepping in and being captain for the game, you did a grand job. It was also great to see so many bodies on the sideline showing your boys your support and the passion you have for the game.”
Player of the match went to Spike and Struan for their endeavours.
